Modern Modesty

Modern Modesty with Cleo Madison

Hello Lovelies!!  Let’s talk fashion, shall we.  I love style.  It is so much fun to express yourself through clothes, fashion and the way that you present to the world.  But, it never fails, when I find something I like it’s either too short or too low-cut.  I’m not typically one to show off the goods, and my 35 year old mom body doesn’t appreciate daisy dukes and crop tops.  If that’s what your into, no shame here, do your thing!!  But for my specific body type and for my personal taste, those items don’t work for me. Insert Cleo Madison. Liz, the owner of Cleo Madison, created her company when she, just like me, had a hard time finding clothes that were both stylish and on the more modest side.  She offers a wide range of styles and types of clothing (even swimwear!) and her prices are AMAZING!!

Modern Modesty with Cleo Madison

I’m wearing the Emily dress in these pictures, which is a long sleeve midi dress that covers everything up, but doesn’t look frumpy.  Pair it with tights, sweater and scarf and it’s the perfect fall to winter transition dress.  And who doesn’t love a dress with pockets?!  If you are in the market for some modern clothes that keep your modesty and don’t break the bank, check them out.

This is a sponsored post in collaboration with Cleo Madison. They sent me this dress in exchange for a review.  All opinions are my very own!!

On Intentions

1 / 1 / 161 / 1 / 16

On Intentions Vs. Resolutions Muse My World

Resolutions…. that word is such an absolute for me.

Every year we are asked to decide on our resolutions and then do THAT THING. Then, 3, 10, 14 days later, when you fail to follow through, you go through this depressing cycle of beating yourself down. Well, at least that’s what I do! And why wouldn’t I? As human beings we are not perfect, so when we decide resolutely to accomplish something, and then fail to follow through, the normal process ensues. It’s a bloody travesty, I tell you!!

This year, instead of resolutions, I’ve decided to focus on intentions. Intentions aren’t as scary to me. They aren’t as absolute and stuck as resolutions. They are more free flowing and versatile. Intentions allow me to make mistakes. Intentions allow me to be human and waiver, then go back to the path I’m working towards. They are a way of being instead of this lingering cloud of pressure.

On Intentions Vs. Resolutions Muse My World

So, let me share with you some of my intentions this year:

Family = Team.
This is something that I have been trying to stress to my family, and teach my children for a while now. My intention is to keep spreading this message and work towards this goal.

Be Consistent.
Blogging is not an easy task. It takes commitment and work and time. My intention this year is to be more consistent, however that ends up playing out.

Practice.
This year my intentions are to practice art. That’s really what an artist does anyways, right? They practice? I have a lot of intentions in this area of practice and plan to show you my journey along the way.

This year, I’m deciding to be intentional with my goals.  What are you being intentional with this year?

The Stylish Looks Of Horse Racing Season

3 / 9 / 15

RaceFashion

Winter is almost over, and for many in the sporting world that means it's time to turn their attention toward the spring and summer horse racing seasons. It's in this span during the year that the most prestigious races take place, mostly in the U.S. and the United Kingdom. However, prestigious horse races aren't exciting only for those with an eye on the races; they're also wonderful for people who like to keep an eye on fashion.

For some in this category, the basics of horse racing fashion are familiar. However, with the season nearly upon us, here's a look head to what are sure to be some of the top talking points of race day fashion in the months to come.

Glamorous Hats

If there's one defining feature of the fashion associated with the sport of horse racing, it's the hats. Glamorous hats are all but required among the fashion-conscious at major events, to the point that they've taken on a sort of style category of their own. Derby hats can be purchased at specialty shops like Hat-a-Tude, and they occupy entire sub-categories on Pinterest! The point is, if you're attending a big-time horse racing event, have some fun with the selection of a glamorous hat—it can be any color, style, size, etc. that you like.

Stylish Heels

There are some instances in which heels can be inconvenient at the races. A BBC article on how to impress at the Royal Ascot races (which actually have a strict dress code) even points out that one might be inspired to go barefoot after a day in heels walking around the tracks (which is apparently a big no-no). But if you can manage based on weather, terrain, and personal comfort, heels tend to be the best options for equestrian fashion. Particularly at the headline U.S. events like the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes, the most common look is the pairing of a glamorous hat, a nice pair of stiletto heels, and a colorful sundress.

Purposeful Outerwear

Outerwear is most prevalent at races like England's Cheltenham Festival, which takes place this coming week. The event is perhaps best known for just how many major races it includes, as is made evident in Betfair's busy preview section for the actual competition. Analysis, betting activity, and last-minute shifts in odds make up the bulk of activity for a race that's this soon, and at Cheltenham there's always an emphasis on the tracks. But it's also a unique racing festival in that it happens during a cold-weather season, and layering is crucial for spectators. For this reason, we see a great deal of stylish outerwear at Cheltenham—pieces not just designed to keep spectators warm, but also to make a statement. Mirror's look at past Cheltenham attire has some stunning examples.

Trendy Accessories

While horse racing fashion in general has something of a look of its own, the accessories and jewelry we see on racegoers tends to shift with the times. Basically, those dressing up for major races tend to be well aware of the fashionable accessory trends of any given year or season, which can provide an interesting touch of variety in the general look of race day fashion. Harper's Bazaar recently wrote about some major jewelry trends for the spring of 2015, including unbalanced earrings, brass pieces, and choker necklaces. It'll be interesting to see if some of these types of pieces are seen by the tracks in the coming months.

And there you have it. Horse racing fashion is always a guarantee to be whimsical and exciting, but these are some of the specific looks and ideas to keep an eye out for as the biggest races of the year approach.

Change is good, right?

8 / 9 / 14

Well, in my world, change is good.  The more I grow and learn, the more I change.  My aesthetic and my style change.  The colors I like change.  And, as the world goes on, trends change.  And that is my segway into a new look for my blog.  I've been working super hard behind the scenes for months now getting everything ready.

This means that over the next month as I implement these changes, you'll see my blog in a bit of a disarray.  Let's be real here for a minute.  I'm not rich.  I can't pay for someone to design my blog for me.  So, I spend my time learning and working on digital design, web design and code.  So much in fact my brain hurts, burns even.  Hopefully the switch will be quick, like ripping of a band-aid, but it may take me a couple weeks to get it all together.  Stay tuned… I'm really proud of how it's all coming together.  In the meantime, here is a little mood board that incorporates the feel of my new look.

Studio Calico Guest Designer Camelot Project Life Reveal

4 / 27 / 14

So, it is reveal day and I've got some Project Life pages for you all.  The Camelot Project Life Kit and the add-ons Arthur and Lancelot have been my favorite project life kits to date.  Absolutely, completely love them!!!!

This first page uses just the Main Camelot Project Life kit.  I created a sort of monochromatic feeling with the blues/greens.  All the cards in this kit are awesome.

The next page also uses only the Main Camelot Project Life kit.  There were a few specialty cards in the kit, including one that you scratched off to reveal a message.  LOVE IT!!

The next page uses the Main Camelot Project Life kit as well as the Arthur and Lancelot add-ons.  I love, love, love the Tiny Text from Cosmo Cricket in the kit.  I also created a sequins pocket for the Title Page.  The kit contains a lovely printed transparent sheet.  I attached my title to that, put it in the pocket, added sequins and sewed the top.  So fun!!!

Studio Calico Camelot Guest Designer Card Reveal

4 / 27 / 14

It's reveal day everyone!!!  The Camelot kits this month are amazing.  They are definitely my favorite kits so far and I have loved working with them.  So, it's time to reveal all my projects for this month.  Here are my cards.

This card uses only the Main Camelot Kit.  I stamped the flowers around the edges in various colors, using that fantastic weathered wood paper as my background.  I then stamped the sentiment and cut it up, adhereing it with pop dots and adding the blue gems as embellishments.

Happy, Happy, Happy Everything 2

The next card is a single layer card using the Morgan and Galahad add-ons.  I stamped the chevron in various pinks and gray and the bold Hello in black.  Added some of the gray twine from the Morgan kit and topped it off with the frosted pink gellies.

Hello Card 2

This card also only uses the Main Camelot Card kit.  The vellum paper is amazing and I definitely want to hoard it!!!  I used the buildable stamp set in the main kit to create the stamped focal point.  I applied glitter to the top of the ring to give it some sparkle.

Congratulations 2

This card uses the Main Camelot Card kit and the Morgan add-on.  I love all the pretty paper and buttons, it makes me think of sherbert.

Hello There Friend Card

This card also uses the Main Camelot Card Kit and Morgan add-on.  Both kits had some beautiful ribbon and fibers, so I thought, why not layer them and stack them up.  The hints of gold are and added bonus.

Pretty Thank You

This card uses the Morgan add-on stamp set.  I watercolored some various colors onto the cardstock, then stamped the images in a striking black against the colors.  Definitely out of my norm as far as design, but I love how it turned out.

Water Color Happy Birthday

This card uses just the Main Camelot Card Kit.  A simple card that anyone can make, but it packs a big punch.

Happy Birthday Card 2

Thank you so much for checking out my cards.  And a huge Thank You to Studio Calico for asking me to guest design for them this month.  It has truly been a dream come true!!!  Make sure you stop by and check out the Studio Calico site and all the other creative team galleries.  It will literally knock your socks off.
